The shop is in Tinton Falls, which puts the whole county within a short drive: the shore towns to the east, the Two River towns around home, and the farms and newer developments to the west. I've worked in most of them since 2004. Here's how I think about the four stretches of the county, and where each project below happened.
Based in Tinton Falls. Registered NJ home improvement contractor, HIC #13VH04440200. Five stars on Houzz.
Every town below is in range. The differences between them are real, though: an older cottage two blocks from the ocean gets planned differently than a 1990s colonial out past Freehold, and it helps to know which one you're in before the first visit.
From the bay towns above Aberdeen down through the barrier island to Wall, these are mostly smaller lots and older houses: capes, bungalows, and raised ranches built for summer that a lot of people now live in year-round. Kitchens and baths here are usually a footprint problem before they're a finish problem, and every window and door gets extra attention to the flashing given the salt air.
Red Bank, Fair Haven, Rumson, Little Silver, Middletown, Colts Neck, Shrewsbury, Oceanport, Eatontown, Tinton Falls, Interlaken, West Long Branch, and Holmdel are the towns around the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers, and around the shop. This is where I do the most work: a lot of kitchen and bathroom remodels in older colonials and capes, plus basement finishing and decks on the bigger lots further from the river.
Freehold, Manalapan, Marlboro, Matawan, Howell, Farmingdale, Allentown, Millstone, Roosevelt, Upper Freehold, Englishtown, and Ocean Township are inland: newer developments with bigger houses, more room to work with, and less on-street parking to fight for a dumpster spot. Interior renovations and full basement builds are common out here, where the extra square footage makes a bigger project worth it.
No. The price is the job, not the drive. Everything in Monmouth County is close enough that travel time isn't a line item on the estimate.
Almost certainly. The towns below cover Monmouth County; if yours is a village or section within one of them, or just over the county line, call and I'll tell you straight whether it's in range.
The plan changes with the house, not the town. An older shore cottage usually means more surprises once we open walls; a newer colonial inland usually means more square footage to plan around. Either way I look at the actual house before I write a number, not the zip code.
Whatever the project, I reply within one business day and we set up a time for me to come see the house myself.
